Product Overview

The 7Semi TXB0104 board serves as a bidirectional 4-bit voltage-level translator, incorporating the Texas Instruments TXB0104 module. It offers four channels for input/output signals and includes an output enable line that facilitates placing the signal lines in a high-impedance mode when not in use.

This 4-bit noninverting translator, the TXB0104, employs two distinct configurable power-supply rails. The A port is engineered to mirror VCCA, accepting supply voltages ranging from 1.2 V to 3.6 V. Conversely, the B port is tailored to match VCCB, which accommodates supply voltages between 1.65 V and 5.5 V. This configuration enables versatile low-voltage bidirectional translation across 1.2-V, 1.5-V, 1.8-V, 2.5-V, 3.3-V, and 5-V voltage nodes. It is imperative that VCCA remains within the limits of VCCB.

When the OE input is in a low state, all outputs are transitioned to a high-impedance state. To ensure the high-impedance state during power-up or power-down events, the OE must be connected to GND through a pulldown resistor. The minimum value of the resistor is determined by the current sourcing capability of the driver. Notably, the TXB0104 device is engineered such that the OE input circuit is powered by VCCA.

Key Features
  • 1.2V to 3.6V on A Port and 1.65V to 5.5V on B Port (VCCA <= VCCB)
  • VCC Isolation Feature - If Either VCC Input Is at GND, All Outputs Are in the High-Impedance State
  • OE Input Circuit Referenced to VCC
  • Low Power Consumption, 5-uA Max ICC
TXB0104 Breakout Overview
There are two rows of pin headers, one down each side of the board; one side for the high voltage signals and one for the low voltage signals.
  • A-side signals are the low voltage signals. VccA must be at a lower voltage than VccB. The voltage range for VccA is 1.2V to 3.6V.
  • B-side signals are the high voltage signals. VccB must be at a higher voltage than VccA to avoid total protonic reversal (or at least, to avoid possible damage to the chip). The voltage range for VccB is 1.65 to 5.5V.

The bidirectional voltage-level translator breakout integrated with TXB0104 IC is a small electronic module that is designed to enable communication between devices that operate at different voltage levels. The module is equipped with a TXB0104 IC, which provides four bidirectional voltage level translations between two voltage domains. It also offers automatic direction sensing and +/- 15-kV electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection, ensuring safe and reliable data transfer. The breakout board form factor makes it easy to integrate with other electronic components, such as microcontrollers, sensors, and actuators, making it an essential component for electronics projects that require compatibility with different voltage levels. With its ability to translate between voltage domains bidirectionally, it is suitable for a wide range of applications, including embedded systems, robotics, and consumer electronics. The automatic direction sensing feature simplifies the integration process, while the ESD protection safeguards the module from electrostatic discharge, which can damage or destroy sensitive electronics components.
