The breakout module BO-10114 is specifically engineered to facilitate the utilization of Serial Flash memory chips without the need for soldering. This grants users the flexibility to erase, program, and verify Serial Flash memory chips without the requirement of soldering them onto a PCB. Employing the W25Q128JWSIQ IC from Winbond, this breakout module offers a storage solution for systems facing constraints in terms of space, pins, and power. The W25Q128JW (128M-bit) Serial Flash memory is organized into 65,536 programmable pages, each consisting of 256 bytes. Programming can be performed in increments of up to 256 bytes, and erasure can occur in various configurations, including groups of 16 (4KB sector erase), groups of 128 (32KB block erase), groups of 256 (64KB block erase), or the entire chip (chip erase). The W25Q128JW boasts 4,096 erasable sectors and 256 erasable blocks.

Furthermore, the W25Q128JW supports the standard Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) along with high-performance Dual/Quad output and Dual/Quad I/O SPI, encompassing Serial Clock, Chip Select, Serial Data I/O0 (DI), I/O1 (DO), I/O2, and I/O3. Clock frequencies of up to 133MHz are accommodated, allowing for equivalent clock rates of 532MHz (133MHz x 4) for Quad I/O with SPI Fast Read Quad I/O instructions. These transfer rates surpass those of standard Asynchronous 8 and 16-bit Parallel Flash memories.

SPI Communication uses the following four wires -
  • SCK - This is the serial clock driven by the master.

  • CS - This is the slave-selection wire.
