Product Overview

The breakout for 7Semi's 64Mbit Flash Memory is engineered to facilitate the use of Serial Flash memory chips without the need for soldering. This provides the flexibility to erase, program, and verify Serial Flash memory chips without the requirement of soldering them onto a PCB. This breakout module incorporates the W25Q64FVSSIQ IC from Winbond. The W25Q64FV is a 64M-bit Serial Flash memory that presents a space-efficient and effective storage solution for systems with constraints on space, pins, and power. The 25Q series delivers superior performance and adaptability, making it well-suited for diverse applications such as code shadowing to RAM, direct code execution from Dual/Quad SPI (XIP), and the storage of voice, text, and data.

The W25Q64FV supports various interface options, including the standard Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI), Dual/Quad I/O SPI, and the 2-clocks instruction cycle Quad Peripheral Interface (QPI). The device is furnished with multiple I/O pins such as Serial Clock, Chip Select, Serial Data I/O0 (DI), I/O1 (DO), I/O2 (/WP), and I/O3 (/HOLD). It is capable of managing high clock frequencies of up to 104MHz, enabling equivalent clock rates of 208MHz (104MHz x 2) for Dual I/O and 416MHz (104MHz x 4) for Quad I/O when utilizing the Fast Read Dual/Quad I/O and QPI instructions. These transfer rates surpass those of standard Asynchronous 8 and 16-bit Parallel Flash memories.

SPI Communication uses the following four wires -
  • SCK - This is the serial clock driven by the master.
  • MOSI - This is the master output / slave input driven by the master.
  • MISO - This is the master input / slave output driven by the master.
  • CS - This is the slave-selection wire.
